Septic Tank Pumping and Cleaning

Lids found, tank emptied, and a record left behind, from the Selah crew that serves Yakima, Ellensburg and the Tri-Cities.

Chapter 01

What goes wrong when a tank is not pumped

A septic tank works by holding wastewater long enough for solids to settle out and scum to rise. Pumping is what keeps that room available. Once sludge and scum build up past what the tank can hold, solids get carried out toward the drainfield, and the field is the one part of the system you do not want to clog.

The signs arrive late: slow drains, a backup in the house, soggy ground or a smell over the field. Emptying the tank before it gets there is the simplest way to protect the drainfield, which is the hardest part of the system to replace.

How the pumping gets done

Before any hose goes in, the tank's access lids have to be found. They are usually buried under soil or landscaping near the house, so we locate them and expose them, clearing anything in the way so the pumping equipment can reach.

A vacuum truck with a large hose then pulls the contents out of the tank: the solid waste, the sludge and the scum, all suctioned into the truck's holding tank. It is a straightforward job done properly, from one crew in Selah. To book a visit, call (509) 367-3384 and Makayla will get you to the right person.

Chapter 03

The record you keep afterward

When the tank is empty, it is also the best look anyone gets at the inside of it. That is why the visit ends with documentation: the date of service, the volume pumped, and any observations or recommendations from the process.

Keep that paper. It tells the next person, whether that is us, another company or a buyer, what the tank has been through. If something shows up inside the tank, the record points straight at a septic inspection or a repair, rather than leaving it to guesswork.

Service log

The card that stays with the tank

Three lines get written down every time a tank is pumped. They are the history of your system in the order it happened, and they feed straight into the maintenance plan from a septic tank inspection. If what the tank shows needs work, that continues on as septic repair.
